Bond Washing
The act or practice of
selling a
bond before a
coupon is paid and
buying it back immediately after the payment. After a coupon is paid, the
price of the bond usually decreases by the amount of the coupon. Bond washing, then, is a way to produce a
capital gain without having to pay tax on it.
