Administracion Nacional de Telecomunicationes
A state-owned, telecommunications company in Uruguay. While other companies can provide mobile phone
services, ANTEL has a
monopoly on Uruguayan landlines. In 1992, the government attempted to privatize ANTEL (and other state-owned companies), but a popular referendum rejected the effort. It was established in 1974.
