field of the Republic of Kazakhstan, C.
The new line goes from Gorgan, where one of Iran's rail lines ends, straight north on the eastern side of the Caspian to Uzen
in Kazakhstan, where the Russian rail system ends.
State-owned China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) in 1997 got the giant Uzen
oilfield, onshore, against keen competition by Western IOCs because it agreed to pay a bonus of $320m, with the PSA giving it rights to develop and produce the field (see Part 2).
At present, the country's most productive oil fields are Tengiz (520,000 mbpd), Karachaganak (250,000 mbpd), Uzen
(100,000 mbpd), Aktobemunaigas (120,000 mbpd), and Mangistau (115,000 mbpd).
Slightly offsetting the disappointing news is that the company has completed the construction of the first horizontal well in Uzen
field with daily production flow rate exceeding 22 tonnes.

Some proposals are short-term solutions, such as shipping oil by rail, and some are long-term solutions, such as Chinese National Petroleum Company's (CNPC) grand plan to build an oil pipeline from the Uzen
and Aktyubinsk fields across Kazakhstan to China.
It allows train service from Kazakhstans city of Uzen
via Turkmenistan to Irans Gorgan.
With Iran, these countries are constructing a new railroad to link Uzen
in Kazakhstan with Gyzylgaya, Bereket, and Etrek in Turkmenistan and end at Gorgan in the Iranian province of Golestan.
Also, it is planned to increase the number of well repairs in Uzen
field by 144 wells.
The pipeline system runs for approximately 1,232 kilometres, from Uzen
in southwest Kazakhstan to the Caspian port of Atyrau, before crossing into Russia and linking with Russia's Transneft system at Samara.
