Maritime Administration
Also called MARAD. A branch of the U.S. Department of Transportation that provides and maintains ships for use during times of national emergency. MARAD also supports military operations when requested and determines sea routes best suited for American maritime commerce.

The United States Maritime Administration (MARAD) has announced that it has reached an agreement with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to lift the temporary suspension of the disposal of vessels in the state's James River fleet.
This is through an agreement with DRMEC and the United States Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, the United States Maritime Administration, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and The Howland Group, the risk bearing commercial partner.
Specifically, the letter advises stockholders that: * The United States Maritime Administration (Marad) has confirmed that Kistefos' proposals to place two highly qualified directors on Trico's Board and enact several proposals to improve management accountability and the company's corporate governance practices will not place Trico's Jones Act eligibility at risk.
