Unidade Real de Valor
An accounting currency used in Brazil in 1994. It was pegged to the U.S. dollar at par, as well as to three price indices. Prices were expressed in URV even though the cruzeiro real, which suffered from hyperinflation, continued to circulate. It was used to adjust people in Brazil to a stable currency in anticipation of the introduction of the Brazilian real later the same year.

These restated 1994 figures are set out herein, but it should be emphasized that the figures included are distorted by the introduction of the URV, the precursor of the Real, in the second quarter of last year.
Xavier Rius, lead author of the study and a professor in the Chemometrics, Qualimetrics and Nanosensors research group in the Analytical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry Department of the URV, told SINC.
