United Nations Children's Fund
Commonly called UNICEF (formerly United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund). An organization within the United Nations that provides humanitarian and other aid to women and children, especially in the developing world. It provides food, shelter, medicine and other necessary supplies. It is financed by governments and individuals globally. It was established in 1946.

A local UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) worker was shot dead in a lawless part of the southern Philippines close to where a political massacre occurred this week, police said Friday.
More than two-thirds of children in Jordan suffer from verbal abuse by their parents, while 57 percent experience physical abuse at the hands of their school teachers and administrators, according to a study conducted by the UN children's fund (UNICEF) and the education ministry.
