Talk Down

To encourage a stock price to decline. Talking down can be a form of price manipulation (in which case it is illegal) or it simply may be a self-fulfilling prophesy. For example, an analyst may believe a stock is overvalued and publish an article saying so. This may spook investors into selling, which itself would cause the price to decline.
