New Taiwan Dollar The currency of Taiwan. It was introduced in 1949, replacing the old dollar at a ratio of 40,000 old dollars to one new dollar. Technically, it existed alongside the silver yuan, which was the official currency of the Republic of China (not to be confused with the People's Republic of China); however, the silver yuan was never actually used, and, in 2000, the Taiwanese dollar became the sole currency. It is a floating currency. Want to thank TFD for its existence? Tell a friend about us, add a link to this page, add the site to iGoogle, or visit the webmaster's page for free fun content. |
