Sweetheart Deal
Any offer that is too good to refuse. A sweetheart deal has a negative connotation because it often refers to an unethical arrangement. For example, a company may promise a politician a chairmanship when he leaves office in exchange for a vote. Likewise, a potential acquiring company may offer golden handshakes to the board of directors of the target company to encourage them to accept an offer even it violates the interests of shareholders. A sweetheart deal is sometimes illegal. See also: Fiduciary Responsibility.
