Standard & Poor's Confidence Indicator

A measure of investor willingness to attempt higher returns by assuming more risk. It is calculated by compiling an index of stocks categorized according to risk; a higher measure indicates higher confidence. It differs from other confidence indicators in that it is not based on subjective surveys of industry insiders.

Standard & Poor's Confidence Indicator

An investor confidence indicator in the securities markets that is calculated by constructing an index of low-priced to high-grade common stock. A rising index indicates increased investor willingness to assume risk and therefore indicates increased investor confidence. Compare Barron's Confidence Index.
