Trading a security and an option on the same security on the same exchange.

Side-by-Side Trading
The practice of buying or selling a security while also buying or selling an option on that security at the same time. The SEC watches side-by-side trading closely because it opens the possibility for price manipulation.

side-by-side trading
The simultaneous making of a market in a stock and in its associated options. The SEC has long frowned on this practice because of the possibility of price manipulation inherent in it. Also called integrated market making.
