Since repurchase reduces the number of shares outstanding and thus increases earnings per share, it tends to elevate the market value of the remaining shares held by stockholders. Share Repurchase The practice of a publicly-traded company buying its own shares from shareholders. This is done to reduce the number of shares outstanding, which increases the earnings per share. Ideally, this will increase the share price. Share repurchase is a common practice when the company's management believes that its shares are undervalued. It may also be used as an antitakeover measure. How to thank TFD for its existence?
