Senate Appropriations Committee

A committee of the U.S. Senate responsible for drafting legislation to spend federal money. According to the U.S. Constitution, any federal spending must be authorized by legislation. The Appropriations Committee spearheads that effort in the Senate. It consists of approximately 30 members, most of whom belong to the Senate majority party. It was established in 1867.
