Sell the Spread

In an option spread, to sell an option contract at a higher price than one pays to buy another option in the same spread.

sell the spread

Used to refer to a hedge transaction in which the contract sold carries a larger premium than the contract purchased. When selling a spread, an investor might write a call option that would expire six months after the expiration date of the call option on an otherwise identical contract that is purchased.
