Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

The head of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, which is the department of the British government responsible for regulation of agriculture and fishing, enforcement of safety standards in food, and protection of the environment. He/she advises and enforces government policy on these and similar issues. He/she is appointed by the monarch on the advice of the prime minister.
