Russell 2000 Index
An index, weighted for market capitalization, of 2,000 small cap, publicly-traded companies. It is considered the premier benchmark for small cap mutual funds. It is managed by the Russell Investment Group. See also: Russell 3000 Index, Russell 1000 Index.

Russell 2000 Index. The Russell 2000 Index, published by the Frank Russell Company tracks the stocks of the 2,000 smallest companies in the Russell 3000 index.

The index includes many of the initial public offerings (IPOs) of recent years and is considered the benchmark index for small-cap investments.
