Extra money that one has in order to invest in high-risk investment vehicles. That is, it is money that one can afford to lose in case the investments turn sour. Most investment advisers recommend using only risk capital for highly speculative investments.

NEW companies in Scotland are facing an uphill struggle for investment as a result of changes in the risk capital market, says a report.
STEPHEN REA, PR spokesman for the GRA, said that "people should not jump to conclusions about the future" in light of comments attributed to Luke Johnson, chairman of the six-track group's owners, Risk Capital Partners.
Patisserie Valerie, a Soho institution which the brothers grew into a chain of eight cafes and three franchises in central London, is valued at around pounds 8m following the deal with Mr Johnson's investment vehicle, Risk Capital Partners.
