Judging the performance of stocks by monitoring changes in price as they are displayed on the ticker tape.

Read the Tape
Informal; to observe transactions on the market without participating. Investors generally read the tape in order to identify buy and sell points. Regulators may also read the tape to look for evidence of illegal or unethical trades.

The first is calculating a check sum during the backup process, then reading the tape, recalculating the check sum and doing a comparison--they should be equal.
These keys allow a corporation or law firm to use an encryption key for encrypting the data and then provide a decryption key to the vendor for use in decrypting and reading the tape data.
