Quote rule Rule requiring market makers to publish quotations for any listed security when a quotation represents more than 1% of the aggregate trading volume for that security. Quote Rule An SEC rule requiring market makers and specialists on different exchanges to provide public quotes on the securities for which they are making markets (that is, serving as a counterparty for transactions when no one else is available). The quote rule is intended to increase transparency in the market.
