Pyrrhic Victory
A successful endeavor that came with such high costs, that it was almost not worth the effort. For example, a company may succeed in a hostile takeover, but only after overcoming so many anti-takeover measures and spending so much money that it overpaid and may have nearly bankrupted itself.
