Pyramid scheme
An illegal, fraudulent scheme in which a con artist convinces victims to invest by promising an extraordinary return but instead simply uses newly invested funds to pay off any investors who insist on terminating their investment.

This question generally stems from a lack of understanding of the legal parameters for MLM businesses in the United States, and mistaking a legitimate Multi Level Marketing opportunity with a Pyramid Scam.

Basically this was a scam that worked similar to how pyramid scams work in that there was a list of individuals with addresses and these people were to each send one dollar to the people on the list and the idea was that as it was forwarded there were a number of different things that would be sent on and in the end everyone would make money fast.

Sadly, most of these so-called top home Internet businesses are pure pyramid scams.
