The highlight of the proof gold session was lot 425, an extremely rare 1880 Coiled Hair $4 Stella, NGC certified Proof 63, which sold to a collector for $618,125.
Other key coins included a classic colonial 1797 Draped Bust Half Dollar PCGS XF45 sold for $41,400; a matte proof gold 1908 $5 Indian PCGS PR67, the finest known specimen tied with only one other, realized $36,225; and a 1916-D Mercury Dime PCGS MS65FB which went for $27,025.
Another area of strong demand was 20th Century Proof Gold.
PCGS has also been selected to certify many of the magnificent Proof gold coins and other important numismatic gems from the Childs Collection scheduled to be auctioned August 29-30.
