Pro-Rata Describing a proportion of a payment according to an amount held or length of time elapsed. For example, if a company pays a dividend, each shareholder receives a pro-rata proportion of the dividend; that is, a shareholder owning 5% of the company will receive 5% of the dividend. Likewise, a company may pay an employee a pro-rata annual salary if that employee works less than a year. That is, an employee receiving a $50,000 salary who works only six months will receive a pro-rata salary of $25,000. How to thank TFD for its existence?
