Primary Shares
Shares traded in the primary market. That is, a primary share is a share traded when the seller is the issuer. Thus, the money the buyer pays for a primary share goes directly to the company the share represents.

primary shares
Shares in a stock offering in which proceeds go to the issuing company. Primary shares have not been previously traded and are not included in shares outstanding prior to the offering. Compare secondary shares.
