Preliminary estimate

The second estimate of GDP released about two months after the measurement period.

Preliminary Estimate

1. In calculating quarterly GDP, a second estimate published approximately two months after the end of a quarter. It includes information not available at the time of the advance estimate, as well as any necessary data revisions. However, it is still subject to scrutiny and potential alteration. 2. An early calculation of the cost of a project. This calculation is made and presented to a buyer before a project has begun, and is subject to change due to both exogenous factors and endogenous factors. See also: Revised estimate.
