NLG
The ISO 4217 currency code for the Dutch Guilder.

NLG
ISO 4217 code for the Dutch guilder. It was introduced in 1680 as a silver coin. It was one of the most important currencies in early stock exchanges because of Holland's importance in world markets. The guilder was decimalized in 1817 and pegged to gold for a number of years in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The peg to gold (by way of the U.S. dollar) was re-adopted during the Bretton Woods System. The guilder ceased circulation in 2002 with the introduction of the euro.
