Mutual Recognition Agreement

An agreement between two or more jurisdictions to consider licenses and certifications given by one jurisdiction as being valid in the others. For example, if one is licensed to practice dentistry in Oregon and Oregon has a mutual recognition agreement with Washington, one is by extension licensed to practice dentistry in Washington. Mutual recognition agreements may take place within a country (as between U.S. states) or they may be international.
