Statistical technique for distinguishing between two groups on the basis of their observed characteristics.

Multiple-Discriminant Analysis
The act or philosophy of taking multiple factors into account when deciding which securities to place in a portfolio. A multiple-discriminant analyst may look at profits, sales, and a number of different ways of computing them when making these decisions. The goal of multiple-discriminant analysis is to use as much information as possible to design an efficient portfolio.
