Maturity 1. The length of time until the principal amount of a bond must be repaid. 2. The end of the life of a security. Notes: In other words, the maturity is the date the borrower must pay back the money he or she borrowed through the issue of a bond. Maturity For a bond, the date on which the principal is required to be repaid. In an interest rate swap, the date that the swap stops accruing interest.
