The resolution recognizes the growing number of states that allow gay unions – either marriage, civil unions or domestic partnerships – and grants bishops in those states the discretion to offer a blessing.
Marriage equality is having all rights of marriage, both state and federal, regardless of the title, be it marriage, civil union, or domestic partnership.
Gay marriage, civil unions or domestic partnerships are not recognized by the federal government.
