Maltese Lira
The currency of Malta from 1972 until 2007. Prior to 1972, Malta used the British pound; when the pound decimalized, Malta decided to issue its own lira, which it pegged to the pound on a 1:1 basis. It later was pegged to a currency basket and became the second highest valued currency in the world. It was replaced by the euro on January 1, 2008.
