Magnusson-Moss Act

    0.01 sec.
Magnusson-Moss Act

A federal law passed in 1975, governing disclosures in connection with written warranties on consumer goods, including goods attached to or installed on real property. It does not require warranties, but if one is given, (1) the title of the document must clearly state whether it is a full warranty (imposing no conditions on the buyer, such as routine maintenance every 3 months) or a limited warranty (requiring the borrower to meet certain requirements, that can be spelled out in the body of the warranty itself);(2) the warranty must disclose certain information about the coverage of the warranty, explained in an easy-to-read and concise manner; (3) the warranty must be available where the goods are sold so that consumers can read it before buying. It is unlawful to disclaim the implied warranty of merchantability. It is also unlawful to say that use of unauthorized parts or repair services will automatically void the warranty.
