Low-load fund Low-Load Fund A mutual fund in which the load or sales fee that one must pay to the fund is low compared to other funds. Generally speaking, a low-load fund has a load between 1% and 4% of the value of the shares purchased or sold. Low-load funds became popular in the 1980s.
