Lituanian Talonas The temporary currency of Lithuania between 1991 and 1993. It replaced the Soviet ruble, though both continued to circulate for some time. The talonas was criticized because it required persons to pay effectively double for goods, which hindered growth while not controlling inflation. It was replaced by the litas.
