Liberal Democratic Party of Japan

A center-right political party in Japan. Except for 11 months in 1993 and 1994, the LDP ruled Japan between 1955 and 2009. Because it was so dominant, it has lacked a coherent ideology. It favors the free market but has also fostered a bureaucratic system that held significant influence over the private sector for most of the postwar period.
