Knox v. Lee

    0.01 sec.
Knox v. Lee
A U.S. Supreme Court case holding that fiat currency issued during the U.S. Civil War was legal tender and had to be accepted as payment. The court held that one could not demand payment in gold or another commodity instead of legal tender currency. The case was decided in 1871, overturning the precedent set the year before in Hepburn v. Griswold.
