Indexing

A passive instrument strategy calling for construction of a portfolio of stocks designed to track the total return performance of an index of stocks.

indexing

A strategy for choosing securities so that a portfolio mimics the market as represented by some chosen market index. Most stock index funds attempt to mimic Standard & Poor's 500 Stock Index. See also enhanced indexing.
