Honduran Lempira The currency of Honduras. It is named after Lempira, a 16th century chieftain who led a resistance against the Spanish. It was introduced in 1931, replacing the Honduran peso. In the 1990s and early 2000s, the lempira underwent a great deal of inflation, but it has since stabilized. However, tourist centers and some other areas of the Honduras accept the U.S. dollar in addition to the lempira. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
