Haitian Dollar

In Haiti, a term for five gourdes. Between 1912 and 1989, the Haitian gourde was pegged at a rate of five gourdes to one U.S. dollar. Even though the gourde is now a floating currency, the peg is maintained in colloquial speech. Prices in shops are sometimes given in Haitian dollars.
