HNL The ISO 4217 currency code for the Honduras Lempira. HNL ISO 4217 code for the Honduran lempira. It is named after Lempira, a 16th century chieftain who led a resistance against the Spanish. It was introduced in 1931, replacing the Honduran peso. In the 1990s and early 2000s, the lempira underwent a great deal of inflation, but it has since stabilized.
