Forward exchange transaction Foreign currency purchase or sale at the current exchange rate but with payment or delivery of the foreign currency at a future date. Forward Exchange Transaction A transaction in which two parties agree to trade two currencies at a given exchange rate at some, stated point in the future. That is, the actual trade occurs at the agreed-upon exchange rate, regardless of what the spot rate is when the transaction takes place.
