Federally Sponsored Corporate Security A debt obligation owed by a private company chartered by the U.S. government. While similar to an agency security, federally sponsored corporate securities are issued by a private company with an implicit guarantee from the federal government. Agencies that offer these securities include Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. While these securities are not directly guaranteed by the U.S. government, they are considered fairly safe investments.
