the person responsible for monitoring the efficient and fair operation of the EUROPEAN UNION. The ombudsman and his/her secretariat investigate complaints by citizens of the European Union who feel that they have been unfairly affected by any European Union institutions such as the EUROPEAN COMMISSION.
