Election Period The period of time during which the holder can elect to extend and extendible bond, or to retract a retractable bond. Election Period In extendable bonds and retractable bonds, a period of time during which a bondholder must inform the issuer whether or not he/she intends to exercise the option to extend or retract. Both types of bonds allow a bondholder to change the maturity date and either move it forward or push it back, depending upon the bondholder's interests and investment goals.
