European Commission The executive department of the European Union. It is responsible for enforcing treaties, implementing laws and proposing legislation to the European Parliament. It consists of a president nominated by the European Council and confirmed by Parliament and one commissioner nominated by each state of the EU (except the president's home country) in consultation with the president and confirmed by Parliament.
