It consists of a president nominated by the European Council and confirmed by Parliament and one commissioner nominated by each state of the EU (except the president's home country) in consultation with the president and confirmed by Parliament. The Commission traces its origins to the High Authority of the European Coal and Steal Community; it took its current form in 1967.
