Enterprise for the Americas Initiative
A program of the U.S. government allowing countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to redirect a portion of the debt owed to the United States to a fund aimed at helping local children and the environment. In order to be eligible for the EAI, a government first must have moved toward opening itself for foreign direct investment. It was established by President George H.W. Bush in 1991.
