Inquiry Used in the context of general equities. In-line expression of interest in a particular stock, usually asking the firm to bid for or offer stock. Inquiry 1. A request in which one investor asks another to make a bid or offer on a security. 2. An indication of interest by a potential customer or client. Generally speaking, an inquiry follows an advertisement or word-of-mouth information about the company. The number of inquiries can help a company determine the effectiveness of its marketing. Likewise, the number of inquiries relative to the number of actual customers or clients can help the company determine the quality of its products and/or staff. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
