Dry Powder Informal; a term for cash reserves, especially to cover unforeseen, future obligations. In personal finance, dry powder can also refer to low-risk liquid assets that can be converted to cash with minimal effort. The term is associated often with venture capital, when it refers to keeping ventures funded in a downturn, and with home building, when it refers to a reserve used to buy real estate when the market is favorable. The term derives from the need for dry gunpowder in the heat of battle in early modern warfare. How to thank TFD for its existence?
