In 2003, the life/health insurance industry experienced a gradual downward migration in credit quality, with Best's Rating downgrades outnumbering upgrades by more than a 2-to-1 margin, according to a special report by the A.
As such, Fitch downgrades this class to 'CC' from 'CCC'.
The most notable credit action was Fitch's downgrade of insurance giant AIG to 'AA+' from 'AAA' in March, followed by another downgrade to 'AA' in May.
